was
explained.
For
this
purpose,
a

was
developed
by
the
researchers.
The
scale
was
applied
to

from
Department
of
Computer
and
Instructional
Technologies
in
a
period
of
two

and
item

obtained.
The
scale
was
also
given
to
LO

to
be
evaluated
and
scored
between

content
appropriateness.
Afterwards,
the
scale
was
applied
to
351
students
from
Department
of
Computer

this
study
was
to
investigate
the
effect
of
science
teaching
based
on
constructivist

on
students'
cognitive

affective
levels.
The
subjects
were
62

In
the
experimental
group,
"Matter

was
taught
with
instructional
materials
prepared
by
the
researchers.
These
materials
were
suitable
for
constructivist

and
student

education
besides
discovery

In
the
control
group,
students
were
taught

a
multiple

and
attitude

science
were
administered
to
both
of
groups.
In
addition
to
these,
at
the
end
of
the
treatment,
9
students
in
both
groups
were
interviewed.
Data
were
evaluated
in

UNDERSTANDING OF ACID-BASE CONCEPT BY USING CONCEPTUAL CHANGE APPROACH
Püren İpek ÇETİNGÜL & Prof. Dr. Ömer GEBANThis
study
explores
changes
of
the
tenth-grade
students'
conceptions
about
acids
and
bases
by
using
conceptual
change
text
oriented
instruction
accompanied
with
analogies.
Since
conceptual
change
is
viewed
not
only
as
a
process
of
replacement
of
old
concepts
but
also
a
process
of
learning
to
relate
ideas
to
appropriate
contexts,
the
instruction
and
conceptual
change
text
were
designed
to
convince
the
students
that
some
situations
which
they
understand
are
actually
analogous
to
other
situations
which
they
misunderstand.
The
results
of
the
study
showed
that
students
in
the
experimental
group
taking
conceptual
change
oriented
instruction
performed
much
better
than
the
students
in
the
control
group
taking
traditional
instruction.
Thus,
one
could
deduce
that
establishing
analogical
thinking
during
the
course
of
instruction
together
with
a
conceptual
change
text
could
be
a
powerful
tool
for
generating
an
understanding
of
unknown
and
misunderstood
situations
as
in
the
case
of
acids
and
bases
concept.

INVESTIGATION OF TEACHERS' USE OF EXPERIMENT AL METHOD S IN TEACHING BIOLOGY
Dr. Cem GERÇEK & Prof. Dr. Haluk SORANThis
paper
talks
about
to
what

biology
teachers,
working
at
secondary
education
institutions
of
Ministry
of
National
Education,
use
experimental
methods
and
presents
suggestions
and
methods
for
solving
problems
encountered
in
the
adaptation
of
those
experimental
methods.
For
this
aim,
questionnaires
(for
in-service
requirements
of
biology
teachers,
the
teaching
methods
they
use
and
the
type
of
education
they
had)
have
been
prepared.
Those
questionnaires
were
applied
to
422
bi
ology
teachers
chosen
by
stratified
sampling
method
from
7
geographical
areas
in
Turkey
in
2002-2003
academic
year.
In
light
of
the
results,
it
is
determined
that
lecturing
and
question-answer
methods
are
mostly-used
methods.
Demonstration,
project
and
individual
study
methods
are
less
used
whereas
experimental
method
is
not
used
at
alL.
Moerover,
teachers
need
in-service
training
both
for
teaching
methods
and
use
of
experimental
methods.
The
methods
used
by
teachers
are
detennined
according
to
the
conditions
and
circumstances
of
the
school
they
work.
In
addition,
in
order
to
increase
experimental
studies,
teachers
should
be
motivated
to
use
the
laboratories
as
a
teaching
environment.
The
results
also
suggest
that
the
number
of
students
should
be
decreased
and
biology
programs
should be simplified.

EFFECT OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL A W ARENESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Naim UZUN & Prof. Dr. Necdet SAĞLAMProvided

There

Among
these
factors
this

investigated
the

and
"Scale

to
258
students
from

Whether

The

both
