The purpose of this study was to conduct
the reliability and validity of Time Management
Questionnaire (TMQ) for Turkish university students. 35-
item Time Management Questionnaire was administered to
Middle East Technical University undergraduate university
students who were taking elective courses opened to all
departments and faculties. 9 elective courses were
randomly selected from the elective courses opened at
1999-2000 spring season. The subjects of this study were
165 female and 196 male university students. Validity of
the questionnaire was established by face validity and
construct-related evidence. To analyze the factors
associated with this instrurnent for Turkish population,
items were subjected to principal component analysis and
results showed that 35-item TMQ revealed 3 components.
For the reliability of instrument internal consistency
statistical method (cronbach alpha) was used. Cronbach
alpha coefficient for TMQ was 0.87.

n this study, teacher's perceptions related
lo the attributes of computers as an innovation were investigated.
Twenty seven teachers from three primary schools
were interviewed. it was observed that there are two
different diffusion processes: Computer as an instructional
1001 and computer as a management tool and personal usage.
As a management and personal usage, teachers found
computers advantageous, compatible, triable and observable.
However, as an instructional 1001, most teachers couldn't
see its advantageous and have doubt in using it.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate
probability aehievement, attitudes toward probability
and mathematies of senior prospeetive mathematies
teaehers enrolled in Secondary Mathematies Teaeher Edueation
Programs. In order to test the hypotheses, MannWhitney
U Test or Pearson eorrelation were used. Af ter the
analyses, while it was found that there was a statistically
signifieant mean differenee on probability achievement in
the favor of male prospeetive mathematies teaehcrs, it was
found that there was a signifieant mean differenee on attitudes
toward mathematies in the favor of girls. It was found
no signifieant mean differenee on attitudes toward probability
with respeet to gender. Therc were no signifieant
relationships among girls' probability aehievement, attitudes
toward probability and mathematics. Wbile it was found
significant relationships between boys' probability aehievement
and their attitudes toward probability, and between
their attitudes toward probability and mathematics, it
was found no significant relationship between boy s '
achievement and their attitudes toward mathematics.
When the prospeetive teaehers beeome a teaeher, wrong
impressions toward their stııdents are prcvented so that
they can make positive contribution toward their female
students' achievement in probability, and attitudes towards
probability and mathematies.
lıİs research is a cross-sectional research
aiming to determine how four-six years old children pereieve
themselves, their parents and teachers In this research,
it is tried to determine whether the children's perception of
themselves. 96 children attended this research. To determine
the chil dren' s perceptions of themselves, their parents
and teachers picture cards on which there are happy, sad,
angry and suprised faeial expressions were used, developed
by Cüceloğlu 1968, in addition to them "seared" facial expressions
were used. Each child was studied individually.
The children were asked to match the facial expressions
with themselves, their mothers, fathers and teachers. This research was a 8 time repeated, 8 month lasted research.
It was observed that children mostly prefered happy
faeial expression to define themselves, their parents and teachers.
It was also determined that there was a consisteney
between the faeial expressions that they chose for themselves
and for their teachers and parents. Gender played an
important role for children when pereieving themselves
and their parents, whereas, it has no impact on the pereeption
of their teachers. As the children's age grew, an incrcase
in the amount of positive "happy" pereeption was observed. The literacy of the parents only effected the child perception about themselves.
The present studyaimed at investigating if
there is a difference between left-handed and right-handed
people in the pereeption time of numbers represented by
geometric shapes. The findings of the study indicated that
the left-handed pereeived the number of corners in regular
polygon in a shorter time compared with the right-handed.
This differenee reveals that the left-handed shows an
aptitude in geometry.

As it is known, the basic aim of the
translation courses is to contribute to the acquistion and the
improvement of foreign languages. However, when the
characteristics and needs of the leamers, who are supposed
to reach this aim are taken into consideration, it is much
better to keep the mother tongue-target language
interrelations in mind rather than starting off from the
mother tongue. Therefore, a contrastiye analysis, which
focuses on the grammar of not only the target language but
also the mother tongue proves necessary.
in this study, it has been concluded that a translation
course on subordinate elauses and which is based on a
contrastiye grammar approach encourages cognitive
learning, provides ease of leaming and prevents translation
The purpose of this study was to find out
the possible relationship(s) among students' majors, class
levels, epistemological beliefs, locus of control orientations
and written instructional material comprehension monitoring
types and levels. Subjects were 136 university students
(68 girls and 68 boys). Subjects' mean age was 21. To obtain
related data, "Locus of Contro] Sc ale" , "Epistemological
Belief Scale" and "Comprehension Monitoring Scale"
were administered. According to the results, significant differenees
were found on the levels of comprehension monitoring
in terms of locus of control variable, and on the types
of comprehension monitoring in terms of epistemological
beliefs and class levels variables.

The purpose of this study was to develop a
valid and reliable Likert type scale to measure the biology
teachers' attitude toward laboratory lesson. The scale was
applied to 117 biology teachers. in this scale, there are total21
items, ten ofwhich are negative and eleven of which
are positive. The KMO (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin) value is 0.88
and the BarleU Test value is 3367.79, Cronbach-alpha for
the who le scale was found to be 0.93. Cronbach-alpha values
for the enjoyment dimension scale, confidence dimension
scale and importance dimension scale were 0.90, 0.80
and 0.72. respectively.
The aim of this study is to explain the intentions
of behaviours of female and male students about
saving energy at home. Differences among theİr "attitudes",
Subjective Norms", Perceived Behavioral Control"

The coursebook is a teaching material in
which general and specific goals are presented in a concrete
way, the material is seleeted according to these goals; a
teaching material which determines the in-class teaching
phase, the method, the steps of the lesson, the style of the
study, the mutual influence of the teacher-Iearner; that is, it
organizes the seleetion and use of the teaching materials. It
aids the determination and preparation of the in-class activities;
controls and evaIuates whether the goals are reachd.
in this study, the criteria which the foreign language teac<1ersworking
in primary and secondary schools in Turkey
will use when seleeting these such effective coursebooks
for the formation, determination and organization of
the teaching phase have been touched. The criteria for the
selection of foreign language coursebooks have been evaIuated

This study was to determine the effect of
project- based learning approach on the academic achievement
and academic self-concept and study time of 7th grade
students in elementary school science courses. The research
was carried out on two groups; the experimental group
and control group. in control group, textbook and teacher-centered
based on learning approach, which is called as
traditional method was used. On the other hand, the experimental
group applied a science education based on project-based
learning. Groups were similiar in terms of characteristics
of students and teachers. Af ter experimental
process, according to academic achievement and academic
self-concept and study time, there is a significant difference
in favour of experimental group.
in this work, we investigated whether there
is a significant difference in perception time of the numbers
of the decimal number and the largest of them when they
are represented in graphical form and tabular form. The
computer experiments performed on two groups of students
in different ages. The experiment results show that
perception time of the numbers of the decimal numbers and
their largest values are shorter at representation of them in
graphical form. As a result, it is important to represent the
decimal numbers in the graphical form.

n educational and instructional processes,
visual sense has great effect on leaming. Therefore, addition
to the examination of the geographical phenemenons in
the field, use of different educational materials is a must for
the effective geography education.
in this study, it is investigated that what kind of educational
materials have been used in geography courses in
high schools. Usage frequency of these materials in the courses
are also questioned. According to the results, phsical
maps are used by the half of the participants. However, other
materials are not used sufficiently.
Using the technology, devices and materials provides
effective geography education. In addition to this, these
materials should be kept in the accesable area, for the students.
The best way to do this is establishing separate geography
classes of the schools.
Mathematics is a study of patterns and relationsbips
[I]. Mathematics is regarded as an unlovable
and a very hard subject to be understood by a lot of people.
As Mathematics is being a way of thinking the aim of
mathematics teachers shouldn't be to 1000 knowledge to the
students but to contribute to intellect developing. Besides
they should strive to direct the students to develop positive
manners for mathematics.
The purpose of this paper is to contribute the struggle
of .;aining "the ability of positive manner for mathematics"
anr of "the developing aesthetic feeling." which is considered
as a one of the general target of mathematics. in this article
we tried to fınd out how a teaching method should be foIlowed so as to explore aesthetic way of mathematics.

One of the general aims of the secondary
school physics courses is to ensure that students learn the
basic concepts and expressions which are necessary to
understand wide application areas of physics in their
learning process. However, there is a need for a curriculum
which includes these concepts and expressions and their
relations among them and textbooks and materials which
supports this kind of curriculum for a successfuL. In this
study, senior high school Physics textbook by Ministry of
Education which is used in most of the secondary schools
in Turkey is analyzed for its scientific content and
comprehensibility. According to the evidenee, there are
deficiencies in its scientific content and wrong relations
among concepts and associations in this textbook.
Moreover, it is observed that expressions are insufficient in
expressing the topics

Since environmental education has an interdisciplinary
nature, it should be provided to the students
at all educational levels. Knowledge of environmental
facts, their contribution to environmental problems and also
of the steps to be followed to save the nature requires the
studies regarding the current knowledge of the students on
the environment. in order to detennine the knowledge levels
of the students three different questionnaires were administered
to three different student groups at different time
periods. During the 1998-99 school year 240 students
attending to Hacettepe University, Education Faculty, Chemistry
Education Branch; during the 2000-2001 school year
228 middle school students and during the same school
year 153 students attending to Hacettepe University Education
Faculty Chemistry Education Branch. Af ter the evaluation,
the obtained results indicated that the eııvironmentaJ
education is not sufficient, those students who took chemistry
course at the secondary level have more knowledge
and they have been informed abaııt environmental issııes
from the media.
