ÖZET
Bu araflt›rman›n amac› ilkö¤retim 4-5-6 ve 7. s›n›f ö¤- rencilerinin küçük küplerden yap›lm›fl dikdörtgen prizmalar› içindeki birim küp say›lar›n› bulmaktaki baflar›lar›n› ve bulurken ne gibi stratejiler kulland›klar›n› incelemektir. Araflt›rmaya üç de¤iflik okulun an›lan s›n›flar›ndan toplam 314 ö¤renci kat›lm›flt›r. Ö¤rencilere küçük küplerden yap›lm›fl çeflitli boyutlarda prizmalar çizim olarak sunulmufl ve ö¤rencilerden prizmalar›n içlerindeki birim küp say›lar›n› bulmalar› istenmifltir. Veriler istatistiki yöntemlerle analiz edilmifltir. Bulgular, ço¤u ö¤rencinin 7. s›n›fta bile prizmalar içerisindeki birim küp say›lar›n› bulmakta zorland›klar›n› ortaya ç›karm›flt›r. ‹lkö¤retimde matematik e¤itimi aç›s›ndan do¤urgular tart›fl›lmaktad›r.


ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate 4- 5-6 and 7th grade students’ success and their strategies while they engaged in finding the number of small cubes in rectangular solids. A total of 314 students, from 3 different school sites were participated in the study. Students were preseted pictorial rectangular solids of different sizes and asked to find the number of unit cubes in them. Data were analyzed using statistical techniques. Results showed that many students, even at 7th grade had difficulty in finding the number of unit cubes in rectangular prizms. Implications for mathematics education at the elementary level were discussed.
