ÖZET
Bu araflt›rma, ilkö¤retim dördüncü ve beflinci s›n›f ö¤rencilerinin ‹ngilizce derslerindeki çeflitli etkileflim ba¤lamlar›nda
sözel etkileflimi sürdürme aç›s›ndan güçlüklerle karfl›laflt›klar›nda ne tür iletiflim stratejileri kulland›klar›n› belirlemek
amac› ile yürütülmüfltür.
Ö¤rencilerin kulland›klar› iletiflim stratejileri, ‘s›n›f içi etkileflim süreci’, ‘rol oynama etkinlikleri’, ‘güncel konular ve
yaflant›lar›yla ilgili sohbetleri’ olmak üzere üç ayr› ba¤lamda ele al›nm›flt›r. Ö¤rencilerin en çok an›msama, anadilden aktar›m
ve genelleme stratejilerinden yararland›klar›; bunlar›n yan› s›ra dil de¤ifltirme, ileti azaltma, otoriteye baflvurma, yeniden yap›lanma,
iletiden vazgeçme, konudan kaç›nma stratejileri ile dilsel olmayan çeflitli stratejileri de kulland›klar› saptanm›flt›r.
Araflt›rman›n bulgular›, ö¤rencilerin yabanc› dil s›n›flar›nda kulland›klar› iletiflim stratejilerinin, düzenlenen etkileflim ba¤-
lamlar›na oldu¤u kadar onlar›n dilsel ve iletiflimsel yeterlilik düzeylerine ba¤l› olarak da de¤iflebilece¤ini ortaya koymaktad›r.
ABSTRACT
The objective of this research was to find out which communication strategies the fourth and fifth grade primary
school students used in their English courses when they were faced with difficulties in various contexts of interaction.
The communication strategies that the students used were analysed in three different contexts: ‘classroom interactions’,
‘roleplays’, ‘conversations about daily events and their lives’. The strategies most used were retrieval, transfer from the
native language and overgeneralization. Language switch, message reduction, appeal to authority, restructuring, message
abandonment, topic avoidance and non-linguistic strategies were also used.
The findings of the research revealed that the type of communication strategies used by primary school students in
their English courses may change depending on the contexts of interaction and the students’ linguistic and communication
competence.
