TEST ANXIETY, DAILY HASSLES, AND SOCIAL SUPPORT AS PREDICTORS OF DEPRESSION

ÖZET
Bu çal›flmada s›nav kayg›s›, gündelik s›k›nt›lar, sosyal destek ve cinsiyet de¤iflkenlerinin 8-11. s›n›f ö¤rencilerinin depresyon düzeylerini ne derecede yordad›¤› incelenmifltir. Araflt›rmaya 257 (% 53) k›z ve 228 ( % 47) erkek olmak üzere toplam 485 ö¤- renci al›nm›flt›r. Veri toplama araçlar› olarak, Beck Depresyon Envanteri (BDI), S›nav Kayg›s› Envanteri (SKE), Gündelik S›k›nt›lar Ölçe¤i (GSÖ), Alg›lanan Sosyal Destek Ölçe¤i (ASDÖ-R) ile araflt›rmac› taraf›ndan gelifltirilmifl olan Ö¤renci Kiflisel Bilgi Formu kullan›lm›flt›r. Veriler, Ad›msal Regresyon tekni¤i ile analiz edilmifltir. Araflt›rman›n bulgular›na göre, s›nav kayg›s›, aile, arkadafl ve genifl çevre ile ilgili gündelik s›k›nt›lar, aile deste¤i, ö¤retmen deste¤i ve cinsiyet de¤iflkenleri depresyonu manidar olarak yordamakta; arkadafl deste¤i ile ö¤retim yaflam›na iliflkin gündelik s›k›nt›lar ise yordamamaktad›r. Bulgular literatür ›fl›¤›nda tart›fl›lm›fl ve önerilerde bulunulmufltur


ABSTRACT
In the present study, the prediction capacity of test anxiety, daily hassles, social support, and gender variables on depression of 8th-11th grades students were examined. The sample of the study included totally 485 (257 female, 228 male). Beck Depression Inventory - Turkish Form (BDI), Test Anxiety Inventory – Turkish Form (TAI), Daily Hassles Scale (DHS), and Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS-R) were administred in other to gather the data in this study. The data were analyzed by Stepwise Regression technique. Major findings of this study were, test anxiety, daily hassles with family, daily hassles with friends, daily hassles with environment, family support, teacher support, and gender predicted depression of 8th-11th grades students significantly. Peer support and daily hassles with academic life did not predict depression significantly. The findings were discussed in the light of related literature, and suggestion were made.
