ÖZET
Benlik de¤erinin çocuklar›n okul baflar›s›nda ve daha sonraki yaflant›lar›ndaki öneminin fark›na varan e¤itimciler okullarda
benlik de¤erini art›rmaya yönelik alternatif yollar›n oluflturulmas› için okul yaflam›yla bütünleflen çeflitli modeller gelifltirmifllerdir.
Bu modellerden Çember Zaman›, sürekli destekleyici olma özelli¤i olan bir rehberlik anlay›fl›na sahiptir. Temelinde ö¤rencilerin
benlik de¤erini ve kiflisel-sosyal ve duygusal becerilerini ve dolay›s›yla yaflam becerilerini art›rmaya yönelik çal›flmalar yer
almaktad›r. Bu makale, temellerini yurtd›fl›nda hali haz›rda oluflturan fakat Türkiye’de henüz sistematik olarak kullan›ma geçmemifl
Çember Zaman› Modeline odaklanm›flt›r. Çember Zaman›, kurumdaki herkesin (ö¤retmen, ö¤renci, ve di¤er çal›flanlar) benlik
de¤erini ve yaflam becerilerini gelifltirmeye yönelik kullan›lan bir modeldir. Makalede öncelikle Çember Zaman› tan›t›lm›fl ve bu
sistemin Türkiye’deki okullarda uygulanabilirli¤i ele al›narak, uygulanmas›yla birlikte oluflabilecek avantajlar tart›fl›lm›fl›r. Ayr›ca
Çember Zaman› sisteminin uygulanabilmesi için ö¤retmen yetifltiren kurumlar›n örgün e¤itimlerinde ve ö¤retmenlerin hizmetiçi
e¤itimde bunlar›n vurgulanmas› gerekti¤i tart›fl›lm›flt›r.
ABSTRACT
With the realisation of the importance that self-esteem has as a central role in children’s success in school and
furthermore for their future in the work place and their personal lives, educators identified some systems, which can be integrated
into school life, that target self-esteem and social and emotional skills. One such model is Circle Time, a proactive Pastoral Care
system that is based on boosting self-esteem and personal – emotional - social skills (PES) and therefore life skills. This review
focuses upon this pro-active approach within the pastoral care curriculum, which has been gaining ground recently: Circle Time, a
system that gives all parties within the school community opportunities to develop their self-esteem and PES. This review will
concern itself with introducing the concept, descriptions of the possible application of Circle Time within Turkish schools and the
possible advantages of this approach for schools. Furthermore this review will discuss the need for pre-service and in-service
education for the application of Circle Time within Turkish schools.
