MISCONCEPTIONS OF THE STUDENTS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS ABOUT FORCE AND MOTION SUBJECTS AND THE CONJECTURE OF THE TEACHING ST AFF ON THIS MATTER

ÖZET
Bu çalışmada, 2002-2003 ögretim yılında Atatürk Üniversitesi Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi Fizik Bölümü ve Kazım Kara- bekir Egitim Fakültesi Fizik Ögretmenligi Programı i. sınıf ögrencilerinin kuvvet ve hareket konusuyla ilgili kavram yanılgı- Ian ve bu ögrencilere ders verecek ögretim elemanlarının, ögrencilerin bu konular hakkındaki alternatif düşüncelerinin ne de- rece farkında olduklan araştınımıştır. Araştırmaya toplam 149 ögrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmada ögrencilerin kuvvet ve hareket hakkındaki kavram yanılgılannı eksik bilgiden, hatadan ve tahminden ayırt edebilecek üç aşamalı açık uçlu sorular kuJlanıl- mıştır. Anketin ögrencilere uygulandıgı aynı hafta içerisinde 20 ögretim elemanı ile görüşülerek onlardan ögrencilerin açık uç- lu sorulara verebilecekleri alternatif cevaplan tahmin etmeleri istenmiştir. Araştırmada ögrencilerin, bir çok kavram yanılgısı- na sahip oldukları ve ögrencilerin ön düşünceleri ile üniversitede bu ögrencilere ders verecek ögretim elemanlannın ögrenci düşünceleri ile ilgili tahminleri arasında farklılıklar oldugu ortaya çıkarılmıştır.

ABSTRACT
In this study the misconceptions of the students who enroIled to the first year physics department of the Faculty of Science and Letters and to the first year physics-teaching department of the K.K.Education Faculty at Atatürk University in the 2002-2003 educational year regarding force and motion were investigated. In addition. the extent to which the instructors who would lecturc these students were aware of the alternative opinions of these students on these subject s was researched. The research covered a total of 149 students. In the research, three-stage and open-ended questions that would distinguish mis- conceptions from inadequate knowledge, mistakes and presumptions were used. During the same week the qucstionnaire was applied to the students. 20 instructors were interviewed and they were asked to make presumptions about the alternative ans- wers of the students to the open-ended questions. it was found in this research that students had too many misconceptions and that there were differences between the students' presumptions and the conjecture regarding the ideas of the students made by the teaching staff who would lecture them at the university.
