A Qualitative Study about the Sustainable Usage of Online Learning Environments

ÖZET
Kuramsal temellerini sürdürülebilirlik alan yazınından alan bu çalışmanın amacı, çevrimiçi öğrenme ortamlarının sürdürülebilir kullanımı üzerinde etkisi olabilecek yapıları öğrencilerin bakış açısıyla incelemek ve bu ortamların kullanımında sürdürülebilirliğin sağlanabilmesine yönelik olarak ilgili alan yazına katkı sağlamaktır. Bu amaca yönelik olarak nitel bir araştırma yürütülmüş ve çalışma olgu bilimsel (fenomenolojik) desenle tasarlanmıştır. Araştırma verileri, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesinde çevrimiçi öğrenme ile yürütülen bir dersi alan 9 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilen görüşme kayıtlarından elde edilmiştir. Nitel bulgulara erişebilmek amacıyla bir görüşme formu hazırlanmış ve öğrencilerle belirlenen zamanlarda görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma bulguları, çevrimiçi öğrenme ortamlarında bilginin niteliğinin, ortamın etkisinin, ortam değişkenlerinin ve öğrencilerin kendi içsel bazı yapılarının sürdürülebilirlik üzerinde etkisi olan kategoriler olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Bu kategoriler altında bilgi kalitesi, kullanılabilirlik, sistemin kalitesi, hizmetin kalitesi, doyum, tutum, etkileşim tercihi, öğretmen isteği, yönlendirme ihtiyacı ve esneklik şeklinde adlandırılan kodlara ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgu ve sonuçlar doğrultusunda araştırmaya ve uygulamaya yönelik çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

ABSTRACT
The aim of this study which takes the theoretical backgrounds from the sustainability literature is to investigate the structures which may have an effect on the sustainable usage of online learning environments with the students’ perspectives and to contribute the literature about providing the sustainability of these environments’ usage. A qualitative study is conducted for this purpose and the study is designed with phenomenological approach. The research data is acquired from the interview records of nine students whom take an online course of Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education. In order to access to the qualitative findings, a qualitative interview form was prepared and interviews were conducted with students in the specified time. Research findings revealed that the quality of information, impact of environment, environment variables and students’ own internal structures are the categories which have an effect on the sustainability of online learning environments. Under these categories, codes such as information quality, usability, system quality, service quality, satisfaction, attitudes, interaction preferences, teacher requests, routing requirements and flexibility are reached. In line with the findings and conclusions of the research, suggestions were made for the study and practice.
