A STUDY ON THE BASIC BIOLOGY KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENTS IN GENERAL BIOLOGY COURSES

ÖZET
Çalışma Üniversite Genel Biyoloji derslerini tamamlayan öğrencilerin ileri yıllarda alacaklan Biyoloji derslerine temel olan biyoloji kavramları açısından hazırbulunuşluklarını ve buna etki eden faktörleri belirlemek amacı ile yapılmıştır. Araştırmada örneklem olarak 1998- 1999 öğretim yılında İstanbul, İzmir ve Ankara illerinde bulunan II fakültenin Biyoloji bölümü ve Biyoloji Eğitimi Anabilim dalı ı. sınıflarında okuyan 369 öğrenci kullanılmıştır. Yöntem olarak öncelikle Genel Biyoloji derslerinde öğretilen konuların sonraki Biyoloji derslerine temel olacak kavramların haritaları hazırlanmıştır. Bu haritalar incelenerek seçilen bazı kavramların öğrenciler tarafından öğ- renilmişliğini ölçen, 20 soruluk bir başarı testi geliştirilmiş- tir. Aynca öğrencilerin öğrenmelerine etki eden faktörleri belirleyebilmek amacıyla l2 sorudan oluşan bir sormaca uygulanmış, her test grubundan rastgele seçilen bir grup öğrenci ile de mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Testin madde analizi, geçerlik ve güvenirliği alınan cevaplarla tespit edilmiştir. Başan testi, anket ve mülakatlann sonuçlan istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilerek öğrencilerin temel kavramlan öğ- renme durumları ve öğrenmeyi etkilediği düşünülen faktörler üzerinde durulmuştur.

ABSTRACT
The study has been done by the aim of determining the students' knowledge of basic biological concepts prior to the advance courses and the factOfs affecting their preparation. 369 students of 1998- 1999 at Biology and Biology Education departments of II faculties from Ankara, Istanbul and İzmir were surveyed as samples. Experimantal procedures were, preparation of concept maps of basic biological concepts that were covered in General Biology courses and a knowledge measurement test on these concepts, also a 12-item questionnaire and an interview were applied to detennine the factOfs affecting to the student leaming. The item analysis, validity and reliability of subject test were determined by the answers. The results of the subject test, questionnaire and interviews were statistically evaiuated, basic concept knowledge of students and factors affecting leaming were discussed.
