THE EFFECT OF THE COURSE “MAN AND ENVIRONMENT” AND VOLUNTARY ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANISATIONS ON SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS ENVIRONMENT

ÖZET
Bu çal ı ş mada, ortaö ğ retim program ı nda seçmeli olarak verilen “Çevre ve İ nsan” dersi ile Gönüllü Çevre Kurulu ş lar ı n ı n ö ğ rencilerin çevreye yönelik bilgi ve tutumlar ı na etkisi ara ş t ı r ı lm ı ş t ı r. Geli ş tirilen “Çevresel Tutum Ölçe ğ i” ve “Çevre Bilgisi Testi” 2004-2005 e ğ itim-ö ğ retim y ı l ı nda, Ankara İ li Çankaya İ lçesindeki çe ş itli ortaö ğ retim kurumlar ı nda ö ğ renim gören 1013 ö ğ renciye uygulanm ı ş ve elde edilen veriler çok de ğ i ş kenli varyans analizi (MANOVA) ile de ğ erlendirilmi ş tir. MANOVA sonuçlar ı na göre, “Çevre ve İ nsan” dersini alan ve almayan ö ğ rencilerin çevreye yönelik bilgi ve tutum ortalamalar ı aras ı nda, dersi alan ö ğ rencilerin lehine anlaml ı bir fark ı n oldu ğ u tespit edilirken; gönüllü çevre kurulu ş lar ı nda aktif olarak çal ı ş ma durumlar ı na göre yap ı lan de ğ erlendirmede, ö ğ rencilerin çevresel tutum ve çevre bilgisi ortalamalar ı aras ı nda anlaml ı bir fark bulunmam ı ş t ı r.

ABSTRACT
In this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of the course “Man and Environment” provided as an elective course in the secondary school curriculum, as well as the Volunt ary Environment Organisations, to the students in terms of providing environment-oriented knowledge and attitude. The developed “Environmen tal Attitude Scale” and “Environment Knowledge Test” are applied in educati on period 2004-2005 to 1013 students, having e ducation in Ankara, district Cankaya. Obtained data is evaluated by Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). According to MANOVA results, there is a significant difference in favor of student s that have attended the “Man and Envir onment” course, in terms of environment- oriented knowledge and attitude average of the students. On the other hand, with the evaluation considering active participation in the voluntary environment organisations, no significant difference is found between the students in terms of envorinment-oriented attitude and knowledge average.
